Intro to Self-Care Herbs (Winter season)

On this beautiful Saturday morning I am thankful for the abundance of plants provided to us with such healing powers.

This weekend I am putting together an herbal tea and remedy gift set for my family for the holiday season. It’s very nourishing and uplifting for the sluggishness that this cold and dry weather can bring us.

We can’t always change our circumstances or avoid getting particular illnesses, though we can take a few herbal measures that will help reduce the duration and symptoms of an illness while nourishing and hydrating your body.

One of the recipes I would like to start off sharing is one that has proven time and time again to be useful in flu, fever, pneumonia and many other cold related sickness that can come around this year.

The two herbs I use for this formula are Peppermint & Elderflower. Peppermint being an exceptional stimulant and creating a better circulation throughout the body, while the Elderflower has immune enhancing properties and helps reduce fever.  The combination of these two, tastes great while helping to fight the infection and restore the body’s balance.

The 101 on how to MAKE & TAKE this tea, to ensure it works to its full potential is below.

Remember* You have to be consistent but the effects are truly amazing.

28 grams of Peppermint (Mentha piperita)

28 grams of Elderflower (Sambucus can.)

Pour on 1 1/2 pints (714ml) of boiling water. Keep covered for at least 15 minutes, then strain and take two tablespoons every 30-45 minutes until you start to break a sweat (sweat freely). This means that the congestions has been broken and you are helping mother nature equalize circulation. It is now very important you continue taking two tablespoons every 1 hour or two after that.

Even in severe cases such as Pneumonia, these herbs will help tremendously in conjunction with antibiotics where needed. It will help with inflammation, hydration and proper circulation.
